The Smoke House was in full operation in Jackson’s Hole in 1917. From the wording found in the Jackson’s Hole Courier, you’d expect a lot of activity even though gambling was not allowed. W.O. and L.A. Reed were proud proprietors at the time. |

This project is exactly the same size as the Elk Cigar sign and framed to match. The letter centers and additional accents are acid etched with flakes of mica for texture. A variety of gold techniques and tones were used. Two tones of deep wine were used to set off the gold leaf and “Angel Gilding” used throughout this piece. Asphaltum was applied to create drop shadows in several areas. The center panel suggests layouts often used on cigar bands while the antique blue “fan shaped” lines in the background bind the design together and pull your eyes through the layout.
