In 1917, Lee W. Curtis operated Curtis Barber Shop. According to the ad placed in the Jackson’s Hole Courier, the shop was located in the W.O.W. Building. Historically, early barbers did much more than cut hair and shave beards. It doesn’t appear that he performed “bloodletting” but he did do a wide variety of tasks including singes and face massages.

Around the turn-of-the-century, some special reverse glass signs displayed a unique look by leaving the main copy clear and then registering an embossed piece of thin brass behind it to give a true 3-D effect when viewed from the front. We reproduced this effect on this project and the results are stunning! We used the Angel Gild technique to achieve the bright reflections. Several additional tones of 18k to 22k gold were also used to create a softer matte gold appearance. To set off the gold we used several variations of rust, deep red and rich brown. At least three more hues of blue were added to repeat the blue used in the barber pole. Throw in a few variations of varigated leaf and this piece took on a rich, warm appearance.
